I only remember my time with my teacher with great joy and affection in a realationship that lasted for more than twenty years.
To find a teacher who cares and is able to train others can be considered the greatest blessing in life, and I consider myself truly blessed to have been accepted as a disciple and be permitted to train with him as both an ordained monk and layman.
Whenever I would kneel in front of him to complain about the difficulties in my life he would always smile and give the same response, 'Ah Michael, now you need loving kindness'. Because I trusted him and his wisdom, and because I truly wanted to end my own suffering, I would then apply in earnest the loving teachings that he gave. The results were always beautiful, profound and perhaps most importantly, practical. What can be more realistic for the goal of happiness than a life established in Awareness and Love.
The value of his presence in my life cannot be overestimated and my gratitude for Sayadaw Rewata Dhamma is infinite. I consider my relationship with him as one of the most precious gifts in my life.
May he be well and happy.
